Before you accept a travel nursing job at a new hospital, it is in your best benefit to do some research on that facility. This can consist of asking your travel nurse recruiter for the names of some other nurses who have worked at the facility, or hitting nursing forums or hospital ranking websites. First time travelers should try to find a facility that frequently employs travel RNs, so they will be properly trained and given the guidance and support to make the best out of their assignment. More experienced RNs may opt for larger, busier hospitals that may be offering higher pay rates to nurses who can hit the ground running in a fast paced environment.

It is some true with the above advice. As a first time travel nurse, I found out it is absolutely crutial to find a small facility for your assignment, howerver; the fast pace environment is everywhere regardless small or large hospitals.
Not necessary that the facility which frequenly hired travel nurse will give you a properly trained and guidance. One should check into the orientation offered for travel nurse during the interview. Some facilities offered the same orientation as for their owm nurses. New orientaion schedule that including computer training. Some do not. I have been put in the position ” Throw you in the ocean, and you learn how to swim”. Therefere; strong clinical skills and good interpersonal communication skills are the key ingredients to be a sucessful travel nurse. Do not forget these working ethics elements: dependability, reliablity, flexibily and attitude are also the icing on your cake to a perfect picture of travel nurse.

Rule of thumb, just remember you are the guess in the facility, so shows your courtesy and respect, then you got your traveler nurse career made.
